This paper examined criticisms of the contemporary politics in reformed traditional theater from three viewpoints.
First, it’s the reprimand on political corruption. Second, it’s the criticism on betrayal of the country. Third, it’s the expression on anti-Manchu and hostile attitude on Manchu.
Through these contemplations, it’s found that the aims of these plays changed from entertainment focused to clear political tendency. Moreover, from these performances, the author’s angers on dark politics, sympathies on the people, and hostile attitudes on Manchu were found. The reflections of reality on these plays helped the people to understand Late Qing dynasty is not the form of government to be maintained continuously and played certain role to promote patriotism of Chinese ethnics and spirit of democracy. For expressing anti-Manchu, however, the play authors’ narrowed down the democracy or tribalism, having the limitation of the plays.
