This paper concentrates on a trinitarian basis and the implication for our understanding of the being and vision of the Church. I think that the inadequacy of the theology of the Church derives from the fact that it has never seriously and consistently been rooted in a conception of the being of God as triune. The churches in the West the Trinity has more often been presented as a dogma to be believed rather than as the living focus of life and thought. While affirming the Trinity, they did not draw out th modes of being and significance of the Church from the triune God. And that Roman Catholic Church constructed the doctrine of the Church on the Augustine`s trinitarian formulation which shows the inadequacy of his concept of the person. Therefore Roman Catholic ecclesiology has been dominated by monistic or hierarchical conceptions of the Church. I have tried to show that a nonhierarchical but truly communal ecclesiology based on a nonhierarchical doctrine of the Trinity which we found in the Eastern Orthodox trinitarian theology. According to Zizioulas, Orthodox theologian, the unity of God is grounded not in the one divine substance, but rather in the person of the Father. God`s personal mode of existence(the person of the Father) constitutes the divine substance. The being of God is a community of perichoretic interaction. Traditionally Eastern Orthodox Church has recognized a correspondence between Church and Trinity. For the Orthodox Church the Holy Trinity is a model for the Church and the Church is a reflection of the hypostatic union of the Holy Trinity. We agree the mystery of the triunity can be found only in the deity itself, not in the creature. The modes of the Church cannot be identical with modes of triune God literally. The sojourning Church corresponds only partially to the Trinity. So analogically we can see correspondence between Church and God. But we think that the trinitarian models are not simply projections of ideal models. The correspondence between the trinitarian and ecclesial relationships is not simply formal. Rather, it is ontological because it is soteriologically grounded. If Christian initiation is a trinitarian event, then the Church must speak of the Tricity as its determining reality. In substance, the correspondence is grounded in Christian life in triune God. This means that we can and should pursue communal modes of the church life in the trinitarian modes of God. Just as in God`s own being there is no substance behind the persons, so also in ecclesial being there is no universal church behind the local churches. In order to be identical with the universal Church, every local churches must stand in communion with other local churches. I agree with that Eastern Orthodox ecclesiological insight. But we have to know another dimension of Church. According to the message of Jesus, the gathering of the people of God is grounded in the coming of the Kingdom of God in his person. Church is the eschatological creation of the triune God. Therefore the all-embracing framework for an appropriate understanding of the Church is God`s eschatological new creation. So when we think along that framework, every local churches in which we live and believe are historical anticipations of the eschatological universal Church.
