The ecological reading does not seem to be discussed in theological major journals. This essay aims to read Acts in the ecological perspective. The three narratives describe in relation to the ecological reading of Acts. This article deals with several realm. The ecological perspective is discussed in addressing Acts 3. Acts 3 contains the story of the lame man outside the temple begging for mercy. He was healed in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. So he could come into the temple. However, he never came into the temple where he was never abel to come, because he was the handicapped. This happening is a representative case of the ecological interpretation of the restoration and wholeness. Two stories of Matthias for the apostleship(ch. 1) and the electron of 7 Hellenists` leaders(ch. 6) give us insight of the ecological value of unity and sharing. In Matthias` story, he was appointed to the last apostle in order to replace Judas. The purpose of the reorganization of the apostleship discloses God`s continuity in his own salvation-history. The apostles of 12 indicate Israel under the ancestral headship of the twelve sons of Jacob. Thus they take the place as appointed heads of the kingdom of God. The story of the electron of the 7 Hellenist` leaders deals with the issue of harmony in the early Christian community. The need for the 7 Hellenist` leaders was due to the negloection of the Hebrew over the Hellenist widows. Then the apostles suggest appointing 7 supporters to manage the serving of tables. Here the ecological value of unity and sharing is disclosed through an image that the apostles and seven co-workers ironically work together. Philip`s Samaritan mission is the first narrative to bear witness to Christ beyond Jerusalem`s border in Acts. He has successfully carried out his mission. Likewise, he is an architect of mission inviting non-Israelite people into the kingdom of God. As a result, the territory of Samaria is a symbolically transitional place from the stubborn Judaism to the Gentile world into which the mission of early Christian community would proceed. The appearance of Peter and John in the scene demonstrates their deep concern in the expansion of the early Christian community. An ecological image which the Holy Spirit created in Acts 8 suggests the cooperation among Philip and two apostles. At the same time, the apostles` laying on of hands is a symbol of Christian solidarity. As studied, ecological reading is not lonely island in the sea of the ideological criticism. However, it is a nearly new idea that the Korean New Testament scholars interpret Acts corresponding to ecology. It corresponds with the new trend of interdisciplinary studies. The further studies including ecological perspective is recommended.
