This thesis is firstly an attempt to understand what mission principles influenced the past Korean missionaries from the early pioneering period of the Korean church in the 20th century by way of reviewing their mission practices in church planting, evangelism, and nurturing. Pastors mainly took care of local churches. However, women evangelists did more diverse ministries through visiting homes, counselling, and healing through care and prayer. Whether it was local church ministry or personal visiting ministry, a characteristic aspect seemed to be a mission from below in poverty among poor immigrated Koreans in remote regions, esp. in China. Secondly, I have attempted to make a survey of Korean missionaries in different periods from 1910 onward to the year of 2000. It is reviewed in 4 stages: K. missionaries before the year of 1945, after the Korean war till 1960s, from 1970-1980s, and those entering the new millenium. I have tried to show that the early stage missionaries did set a good and healthy model being with the people where they were. It is an incamational model. As the number of K. missionaries grows, there is overlapping happenings in mobilization, in training, in mission field works, in financing and in reporting. I have tried to indicate that they are working without sorting out what their missionary principles are before planning to act in full swing. This phenomena of rapid rising number demands serious evaluation of Korean missionaries` understanding of their mission principles whether those are sufficiently contextual and indigenous. Thirdly, an attempt has been made to look ahead what principles should be followed closely with K. missionaries` background historically, culturally, and ecclesiastically. It has been pointed out that the biblical and classic mission principles are to be simultaneously along with following elements in theologizing mission. Those are mission as presence, mission as proclamation, mission as power encounter and mission as unity with co-operation. In order to experiment and to experience such elements in theologizing mission and in mission practice, I have ventured to draw a model of monastic missionary community through which Korean future missionaries may use to challenge, based on the love of God, small poor churches as well as big city churches to collaborate for furtherance of the gospel.
