Feminism in general has been divided into liberal feminism, radical feminism, marxist feminism, and socialist feminism. Since the beginning of 1980`s, however, feminist issues have been explored anew from the perspectives of psychoanalytic feminists such as Nancy Chodorow, Dorothy Dinnerstein, Juliet Mitchell and so on. French psychoanalytic feminists, or so-called post-modern feminists, Julia Kristeva, Helene Cioux and Luce Irigaray have developed their feminist viewpoints through deep engagement with Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. In this article, I intend to read lives of Korean Christian Women from the three psychoanalytic feminist perspectives. Firstly, from the perspective of multi-vocality which rejects monolithic and despotic understanding and rather focuses on complexity and multiplicity of subjects. Secondly, from the perspective of "subject-in-process" which embraces openness and change of subjects. This is not based on a paternal law or despotic superego but relationship and love. Finally, from pre-oedipal perspective which dares to expose physicality, rhythms, and flexibility of Korean Christian women. This is in contrast to oedipal reading. In doing so, I intend to introduce psychoanalytic feminist viewpoints to Korean Christian Feminism as an alternate way to read liberation and freedom of Korean Christian women. Until now, the role of mother has been thought of as most significant in Korean Christian feminism. The psychoanalytic reading mentioned above focuses on diverse aspects of the Korean Christian woman as an individual.
