This study investigated narrations of Sam-Youn Chang-Heup Kim"s poetry about Kem-Kang Mountains over several literature periods. His trips to the Keum-Kang Mountains were done in 1671 for the first time and third in 1685 during his youth and middle life, and fourth in 1710 and sixth in 1713 while he was in old age.
His trips in his youth and middle age were for preparing writing poems and hermit life, and participating poet society. His arts were performed only in the third trip, and his poems reflect beauty of the mountain, nearby community and environment, and personal lives about his companies, but mainly described his pure emotionality around the scenic mountains. This period"s arts were mainly old poems of five lines with ten words each, rather than rhythmic narrations.
While in his old life, his life became positive and peaceful rather than ordeal, after return from 25 year familial political adversary in the Seol-Ak mountains. He resumed his trips to the Geum-Kang Mountains. In this old life period, he described peaceful mind and accompanying students and comrades from the mountain trip, rather than scenic beauty. In his later life poems, he tried reflect peaceful emotionality, interest in Buddhism, and monachus residing in mountain hermit community.

이 논문은 김창흡이 금강산을 여행한 시기와 배경을 살펴보고 시기별로 창작한 한시들의 내용을 분석하였다. 6차례에 걸쳐 이루어진 김창흡의 금강산 여행의 시기를 제1차 1671년에서 제3차 1685년까지의 청장년기 금강산 여행과 제4차 1710년부터 제6차 1713년까지의 노년기 금강산 여행으로 구분하였다.
청장년기는 수학기(修學期)이자 시단(詩壇) 활동의 시기였지만 은둔(隱遁)을 준비하던 시기였다. 청장년기 금강산 여행 중 제1차, 제2차 여행의 시는 창작하지 못하고 제3차 여행의 시만 창작했다. 제3차 여행의 시는 현장에서의 자신의 감정을 표현하거나 동행인들과 수창(酬唱)하는 절구와 율시가 아니라 여행에서 돌아 온 후 금강산 각 지역의 특징을 부각시키기 위해 10운 내외의 5언 고시 형식으로 지은 것이었다. 매우 체계적으로 금강산의 특징을 전달하기 위한 목적이 주가 되었으며 자신의 유람하는 활동과 심경은 간단히 덧붙이는 방식을 취하였다. 그러나 일부 작품에 현실의 속세를 벗어나고자 하는 탈속(脫俗)의 심경(心境)이 표현되기도 했으며 작품 전반에 걸쳐 은둔자적 취향이 깔려 있었다.
노년기는 기사환국으로 가문이 당화(黨禍)를 입고 설악산에 은둔하여 생활하다가 25년 만에 다시 금강산을 여행한 시기이다. 제4차와 제5차 금강산 여행에서는 제3차 여행에서 누락되었던 금강산 지역을 다수 추가하여 그 특징을 전달하는 시를 창작하는 한편 금강산에 와서 느끼는 자신의 심경을 표현하는 시들도 매우 많이 창작하였다. 현장에서 느끼는 자신의 감회를 즉석에서 표현한 시들도 많았고 동행한 가문의 자제나 제자들과 수창(酬唱)한 시들도 많았다. 현실 세계의 갈등을 벗어나 마음의 평온을 찾으려는 심경이나 불교에 대한 관심과 도가(道家)적 탈속(脫俗)의 세계 추구 등 자신의 내면의 심경을 표현하는 시들이 많았다.
청장년기와 노년기에 걸쳐 금강산의 특징을 전달하는 내용과 자신의 탈속의 취향을 표현하려는 내용이 공통적으로 일관하여 나타나고 있지만 청장년기에는 전자의 경향이 강하였고 노년기에는 후자의 경향이 강하였다.
