The purposes of this study were to analyze economic impacts of a marine sport event on host city using regional input/output analysis and thus to provide the fundamental information that is conducive to verify the economic value of hosting a marine sport event and to maximize the potential economic impacts produced by the event. In order to accomplish such purposes, this study utilized both the first and secondary data for the analysis. In specific, this study conducted a survey with a total of 500 marine sport event visitors to the National Marine Sport Festival held in Tongyong City and used the 457 valid questionnaires after deleting 43 incomplete ones. Also, the amount of investment by host city was estimated by using 2009 budget data from the city. The collected data were analyzed by using Input/Output Analysis program. Accordingly, following findings were derived from current study. First, out of town visitors to the host city were a total of 19,277, the average expenditure of a visitor per day was 27,211 Korean Won and the average day of stay was 1.392. Thus, an amount of 0.512 billion Won was estimated to be the direct impact generated by the event. Second, with 1.2 billion Won invested by regional government and central government, a total of input was 1712 billion Won for the event. Third, the output multiplier effect was estimated 2.211 billion Won with benefits costs ratio of 1.84. Fourth, the value-added multiplier effect was estimated 1.163 billion Won with B/c ratio of 0.97. Finally, the employment multiplier was estimated 20 full time equivalent persons. In conclusion, the key findings were discussed in depth and suggestions for both marketing strategies for the marine sport event and future research ideas were provided in this study.
