The purpose of this study is to provide information to elevate the level of career decision making of student athletes, by analyzing the effects of athletic experience characteristics and self management on the level of career decision making among highschool student athletes. For this purpose, the study has been analyzed with the subjects of 564 highschool student athletes by means of one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows; First, there are differences in the level of career decision making according to individual characteristics. Those who have higher level of career decision making are boys, students in upper classes, students whose parents have higher monthly income, and students whose householder has higher occupational rating. Second, there are differences in the level of career decision making according to athletic experience characteristics. Those who have higher level of career decision making are the group of individual events, the group with longer career, the group with more times of weekly self-training, the group with more times of daily self-training, and the group with higher cognitive athletic abilities. Third, self management has significant effects on the level of career decision making. Interpersonal management and training management of self management have significant effects on all the sub-variables of the level of career decision making. Consequently, educational authorities and athletic instructors should make active efforts to supervise student athletes in a systematic and future-oriented manner through in-depth analysis of causal factors for the sake of proper self management and career decision making of student athletes.
