The purpose of this study is to select the target consumer market of participation sports facilities using the method of backward segmentation on the basis of consumption behavior of participation-sports consumers. The subjects of investigation were 800 participation-sports consumers using twenty commercial sports facilities in the Seoul Metropolis, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheongnam-do, and the Cluster Sampling Method was used. Data processing used backward segmentation analysis, and in order to verify the difference between segmentation clusters, x^2test and one-way-ANOVA were executed. The results are as follows. First, there was inspected a possibility of applying the backward segmentation method on the basis of consumption behavior of participation-sports consumers. Second, there was acknowledged a statistically significant difference in sex, age, marriage, academic background, and the monthly-mean working expenses according to their consumption-behavior segmentation cluster. Third, there was acknowledged a statistically significant difference in a participation-sports event according to consumption-behavior segmentation cluster of participation-sports consumers. Fourth, there was acknowledged a statistically significant difference in all of nine factors of sporting consumption behaviors according to their consumption-behavior segmentation cluster. Fifth, there was acknowledged a statistically significant difference in fifteen of their motivation factors, except a positive development of value, according to consumption-behavior segmentation cluster of participation-sports consumers.
