The purpose of this study was to establish the utilizing planning and alternative plan of The Taegu stadium after the World Cup 2002. This paper examined the reasons why new Taegu stadium needs to set up the utilizing planning after the World Cup 2002. The background and current situation were analyzed and future recommendations made. This paper attempted to discuss factors contributing to the circumstances and endeavor to imply possible solutions. The stadium is underway to build a new 66,140 seats spending 2,925 billion Wons(US $255 million). This includes a minimum of $128 million in local government subsidies. Operate cost after the World Cup 2002 is estimated around $2.4 million each year. Unless detailed planning for use after the World Cup 2002, it will be impossible for the stadium to make a profit on operating. The financial condition of the Taegu stadium should make even in revenue and expenditure excluding fixed cost. This is not easy way compared to many ballparks, stadiums and arenas in the United States, having advanced facilities regarding to sport. The utility planning for the Taegu stadium after World Cup 2002 were as follows : Case one (under control by local government) : ① The catering facilities should be established in the Stadium by private sectors. The City of Taegu should support and induce private sectors to invest for the catering facilities. ② In order to raise utilizing rate, the city of Taegu needs to consider various ways. Creating professional soccer team could be an alternative method. However, this could not be final solution because pro soccer team has usually 20∼30 games/yr. ③ If operating revenue could not make balanced budget compared to expenditure, the city of Taegu is suppose to develop multi complex including showing center, hotel. convention center, multi theater and pleasure park near the stadium in order to make profit. Case two(when private sector take over the stadium) : ① If the Samsung Professional Baseball Club take over the stadium after World Cup 2002, the city of Taegu do not worry about financial deficit, it could be good case for both the local government and Samsung Lions. Pro Baseball can increase the utilizing rate easily. After 1996 Atlanta Olympic Game, Atlanta Braves took over the Olympic stadium to use its home field. This is a good example. ② To use Samsung Lions` home field, the stadium needs to be modified partially.
