The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of different intensities of bow exercise on body composition, blood lipid, and abdominal fat.
Ten middle-aged females who had more than 30% of body fat and over 0.85 of abdominal obesity participated in this study and they were assigned to 110 bow exercise group (n=8) and 160 bow exercise group (n=8). Each group had bow exercise for 15 minutes per day for 56 days (8 weeks), and 110 bow exercise group had HRmax 40-50% of exercise intensity and 160 bow exercise group had HR max 75-80% of exercise intensity. 110 bow exercise group showed greater impact (p<0.05) on weight, body fat percentage, BMI, WHR, TC, HDL-C. After bow exercise, abdominal fat showed that VFA was decreased though there was no significantly effective changes. Although 160 bow exercise group did not show more significant effect on obesity than 110 bow exercise group, the possible effect was seen. Those results were probably due to the short exercising time. If 15 minutes of exercise time was changed to 45 minutes of exercise like other studies, it could bring a great effect on preventing and treating obesity of middle-aged females. Thus, it is meaningful to prove how exercise intensity, exercise time, exercise amount and functions of skeletal system are related.
