The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of social worker"s emotional labor from the Giorgi"s phenomenological approach. In the line with that, we conducted in-depth interviews with 10 community welfare center’s social workers who have worked for at least 2 years. Each interview was recorded with the participants" consents to collect meaningful exploratory data. Results suggests that social worker"s emotional labor might have been explained by 6 core-elements and 15 sub-elements, respectively. The 6 core-elements were as follows; 1) being felt transferred clients’burdensome lives; 2) being felt gap between ideal and reality in the social work practice; 3) finding meaningful reasons as a social worker; 4) coping strategy to deal with emotional eruption; 5) being felt emotionally drained; 6) continuing adaptation. Implications for social work practice and policy are suggested.
