The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the correlation coefficients on knee degenerative arthritis pain, leg muscular function and body composition in the 56 female elderly. The study producted to determine relationship among pain degree, body composition, and involved knee muscular function of degenerative arthritis patients. All the measured data were represented by γ-correlation coefficients using SAS-package(ver 6.12). The 5% level of significance was used as the critical level for acceptance of hypotheses for the study. Tthe results of all the study are as followed: In the relationship of pain degree, body composition, and involved knee muscular function of the 56 patients, statistically significant γ-correlation coefficients among pain degree and the variables were body weight(γ=0.313, p=0.049), fat massy (γ=0.331, p=0.030), peak torque or PT(γ=0.395, p=.047), average power or AP(γ=0.376, p=.038), total work or TW(γ=0.507, p=.002), peak torque body weight or PTBW(γ=0.323, p=.099), and total work % body weight or TWBW(γ=0.456, p=.007) of extensor muscles. But the significant γ-correlation coefficients among pain degree and the variables of flexor muscles were not showed any relationships. This results demonstrated that the pain reported by older patients with the degenerative arthritis was closely related to body weight, fat mass, and extensor or quadricep muscle. Therefore we think that the rehabilitation exercise therapy must focus upon developing the involved knee quadricep muscle and decreasing the body weight and fat mass.
