This is a study to verify usability of a C-R(Criterion-referenced)Test for fundamental motions of ballet. The fundamental motions of ballet such as plie, pirouette, and saute were analyzed by formation of body segments that involved in performance. Levels and characteristics of dancers were measured by error rates of using body segments, testers` careers, numbers of tests. Subjects of this study were 15 dancers who were recognized by novice, mediterian, and expert in ballet. Testers of this study were 83 college students who were either major in dance(including Korean dance, modem dance, and ballet) or major in physical education. To construct the assessment tool, all subjects` performance was compared by frontal motion, backside motion, and horizontal motion. All subjects performance was divided by 4 steps based on their unique characteristics. To verify reliability and objectivity of the assessment tool, 83 testers were employed using video taped that contains 15 dancers` performance. Analysis of data was done by the Estimate of Error Rate, t-test, and ANOVA. Results of this study indicated as follows: 1. The C-R test was reliable to evaluate levels of fundamental motions of ballet for only person who has experienced in dance such as ballet, Korean dance, and modern dance. However, it was not suitable for a person who did not possess any experience in dance. 2. There was a significant statistical difference of the plie test in the group of novice between first test and second test[t(1325)=-3.974, p=0.0001]. However, there were no statistical differences in the test-retest analysis among the variables such as jumping and turning motions. 3. There was a significant difference in novice group to compare mean scores of the average group and that of expert group. 1) Results of the Scheffe Post hoc test for comparison of mean scores among the sub-major indicate that significant differences were existed between testers majoring in physical education and those in dance(df= 905, MSE= 3.2059, Critical Value of F= 2.61474). 2) Error rate of testers by major area was investigated by Discriminant Analysis. The results indicated that difference of Prior Probability was significant by testers majoring in physical education and contemporary dance. 3) Squared distance by major areas for Plie was significantly different among those in major of Korean traditional dance, contemporary dance, and ballet. 4) Prior probability of physical educators for turning motion was greater then the other testers. However, testers who were majoring in Korea traditional dance demonstrated highest score for jumping motion. 5) The error rate of testers majoring in Korea traditional dance was 0.4129. However, the error rate of testers who majored in physical education was 0.2065.
