This study was to examine the relationship between various motivations of participating e-sports and psychological well-being. Through the research, positive emotional states of adolescents experiencing e-sports will be understood and it can be discussed what homes, schools, and communities need to consider for creating healthy e-sports cultural environment. In order to achieve research purpose, 5 middle schools in Gyeonggi-do were randomly selected and 350 students, who have participated e-sports in these 5 schools responded on the survey. Total 334 data were analyzed with excluding insincere responds. The questionnaires were modified appropriately and used in the study and the data were analyzed with SPSS 18.0 program. The results of the study were as follows:
Firstly, e-sports participating frequency and duration were lower, the level of psychlogical well-being became higher. Moreover, the level of psychological well-being of students participating e-sports more than 1 year to 2 years, more than 3 years was higher than those of students participating e-sports less than 6 months. Secondly, as the specific relationship betweem e-sports participating motivation and psychological well-being, time consuming motivation negatively ifluenced on teacher relationship, family relationship, peer relationship, self-assertiveness, positive self-perception, and learning leadership. However, social relation motivation positively affected on teacher relationship, peer relationship, and positive self-perception. Additionally, competition motivation positively influenced on self-assertiveness.
