This paper aims at looking into ancestral rites of Daesoonjinrihoe. The origin of Daesoonjinrihoe goes back Jeunsan Kang Ilsoon. Therefore the thematic development of this paper revolves around the thought of Kangjeungsan. The characteristics of Daesoonjinrihoe in ancestral rites are to equalize the roles of male and female, and for the forebears and the family to be redeemed by the descendants practicing asceticism
The ancestral rites of Daesoonjinrihoe have originated from its view of world and its view of life and death. According to the doctrine of Daesoonjinrihoe, the ultimate ideal world which will appear in the future will be achieved through the Kaebyok(the creation of new world). That world is styled Whuchun(the Latter World), but the former world Sunchun(the Former World). Because the ultimate salvation will ve achieved in Whuchunsegye, the current ancestral rites of Daesoonjinrihoe are not the ritual for the salvation of the forebears.
Consequently, the basic idea in the ancestral rites Daesoonjinrihoe are not placed under the salvation of the forebears. In other words, the ancestral rites are merely temporary thing.
