How can Korean literature prosper through mutual understanding and fusion into other areas and genres? Above all, the first alternative is, by applying world-best IT environment, to move into various content through mutual understanding and fusion into digital media. It can not only circulate rapidly vast amount of data to the public, but also create new genre by reorganization and content-making.
The first step is to lay down solid base for literature content by preparing DB for Korean literature. Putting classical and modern works into DB will make it easier and more practical to have an access to what we call "Digital Korean Literature Hall" Additionally, by comprehensively providing multi-level data, reorganization and edition will be able to be applied in various ways. A government agency, such as National Korean Language Center or Ministry of Culture and Tourism, should be responsible for such a huge DB-making task, and at the same time the public access to the DB should be free.
The second step is to make the network access feasible for anybody, from anywhere, and by any device. Only if the "ubiquitous" environment is offered, easy access to any works will be possible before they are converted into a certain form of content. As literature becomes part of our daily life, so prosperous will be our life. Accordingly, it will bring us solid foundation which will lead to literature content.
The third step, by making literature works into content. is to produce works of various genres. Literature works can be transformed and expanded into films, dramas, comic books, animations, characters, and games. They can also be changed into life-related content like festivals, tourism, and theme-parks. The quality of works should be the main focus. The purpose of such task is not to simply make great fortune through entertainment or consuming industry. It is rather to enable the public to easily access high-quality cultural works, so that our life becomes more abundant as literature content accomplishes its inherent responsibilities of the humanities. Digital media environment is a mere device of effective transmission of such works.
