This research purpose is to try to find environmental education meaning through Levinas’s the Other. Until now environmental education usually has based upon ecocentrism, but this has not suggested the proper alterative and educational principal about environmental problems. We have to dissolve the dichotomize boundary between anthropocentrism and ecocentrism that separate human being as the other being from nature. This research suggests Levinas’s the Other as new environmental philosophy. Levians criticizes that subject-centered-philosophy cause cruel violence and war by human. Levinas blames the subject-centered-philosophy for that it makes subject to see the Other as the target of a competition or use and he emphasizes Levinas’s the Other to enter into relation with the Other. Levinas’s the Other is absolutely alterity, and extremity as enjoyment. The Other expresses his face. His face in which his epiphany appeals to me for response to and responsibility for the Other. The environmental educational philosophy and principles of the alterity and its application to the environmental education conceptualized as followed. First, there is environmental view toward the Other. Environmental view toward the Other aims at uniqueness and sanctity. At the final decision an important matter is not the subject but the Other, environment. Second, there is educational principal in response to environment. Environmental education needs to suggest principal in response to the environment not to stick in one’s heels. Third, there is pedagogical responsibility. Environmental education needs to include pedagogical responsibility to get out of the subject-centered-philosophy to see the face of Other and call the many Other forgotten.
