??Jiyoung wrote “The Imagination in the Poetry of William Blake” as his graduation thesis, which provides some auguries of similarity between Blake and Jiyoung. This paper is intended to make sure the significance of Jiyoung’s thesis and clarify the similarity of Blake and Jiyoung in their poetry. The similarity can be summed up as the organicism, which implies ‘the harmony of heterogeneous qualities’ as a literary method and ‘analogical thought of universe and man’.
??Blake’s ‘the principles of Contraries’, is another expression of Coleridge’s definition of imagination, ‘reconciliation of opposite or discordant qualities’ and Jiyoung also embraces Coleridge’s organicism in his essays on poetry.
??So we can find the realization of this theory in Blake’s “Songs of Innocence and Experience” and “Marriage of Heaven and Hell” and Jiyoung’s poetry which describes his home as an organic space. In his many poems, Blake shows the balance of the two contrary states of human soul: innocence and experience and combines the world of heaven and hell. Jiyoung succeeded in the organic fusion of traditional world and modern western intrusion in his early poetry.
??On ontological level, Jiyoung describes the world in which men are harmonized in his early poems and his own soul who is enhanced into the nature. Blake creates his own peculiar mystic system in which Albion, universal man, is the same being with the universe. This means that they followed the organic tradition based on analogy between men and universe.
