Blake is confronted with women's miserable fate like almost a form of slavery under hostile patriarchal forces. Blake's ideal woman functions as significant agents of revolutionary action. Blake's Visions of the Daughters of Albion is a woman - centered poem. This poem could be primarily read as a sexual revolution in which women's protest against the sexual customs of the times is successful.
The purpose of this paper is to study Blake's sexuality discourses by analyzing Visions of the Daughters of Albion. This paper also examines Blake's account of the body, sexuality and slavery in order to expose structures of sexual and colonial enslavement. My focus is to identify Blake's ideas about sexual politics, in which slavery and sexual depression has a similar structure.
Love and slavery is the two poles of this poem. Oothoon figures both repression and revolutionary possibility. Oothoon tries to be free in spirit but physically bound as a female slave. As a lament over the possessiveness of love and the hypocrisy of moral standard, the poem could be widely explored in the light of contemporary slavery. Blake attempts to find the unfettered expression of women's sexual desires, trying to awaken the voices of female eroticism and identity.
