Japanese imperialism reinforced guidance policy for student in wartime. It was resulted by unified student strike and association movement which actively occurred after the mid 1920’s and by the Economic Panic(1929), the Manchurian Incident(1931), and leave of League of Nations. In the previous period, the students were guided based on teaching activities and discipline within school. However, supervise and control on outside school life of students unreachable by guidance of school were reinforced. Main subject matter in this research known as ‘Guidance League’ appeared throughout such course.
Guidance League, established in 1933, was an outside school supervisory organization. It was formed by alliance of school in regional level to guide and supervise outside school life of students.
The education authority assessed that guidance within school or crackdown and arrest-based measure of police had limits in controlling daily life and thought of students. So Guidance League was established to guide and supervise outside school life of students through close solidarity with family, community, police, and school. Guidance League was established mainly in cities of entire country. By 1939, total of 28 alliances were organized and the scale and activity of Gyeong Seong Guidance League was most prominent of all. Gyeong Seong Guidance League was cooperative system between province and school alliance was formed by designating the Governor of Gyeonggi-Do as president, Gyeonggi Interior Chief as chairman of the board, Gyeonggi School Affairs Section Chief as deputy chairman of the board, principal of each school as directors. Newsletter for guidance work known as 『Bo-do-wol-bo』(保導月報) was published to advertise purpose of alliance as well as activity details to home, school, and common society.
Guidance League was organized as school alliance which had expense structure and system. So it could control outside school life of students effectively. Japanese imperialism prevented resistance of Choseon students forehand and firmly solidified ruling system by forcing them into human appropriate for imperial subjects.
