This study aims to investigate how diplomatic affairs between China in its elevated status and the U.S. will make a difference on the Korean Peninsula from the past unilateral supremacy of the U.S., with a focus on major diplomatic policies.
In the post-Cold War era, the U.S. has held sway over the world order maintaining its exclusive standing on the stage of the world politics as the only superpower. However, the recent rise of China is lending the country a new wing of supremacy in the U.S. unipolar world.
From this perspective, China-U.S. relations have taken on unstable and warped ways in a cyclic pattern of repeating cooperation and confliction. While the U.S. is taking the stand of holding China in check using the existing diplomatic and military supremacy, China is manifesting the aspect of demanding a new rule and norm for international relations based on its economic power.
Thus, in the dual relational aspects of having to ask for cooperation on one side and suffer discord on the other side, the neighboring state of affairs is also assuming a very fluid situation.
In such a complicated and subtle relation between the U.S. and China, we cannot deny that the issue of peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula is a critical, essential problem. Especially, since the Korean Peninsula has a geopolitical value for both the U.S. and China as a mutual strategic buffer zone, both nations’ strategic interests focused on the Korean Peninsula is expected to be confronted more sharply in the future.
