Nowadays society and church lose sensitivity of pain. One can obviously find out the evidence of losing sensitivity of pain through ignorance of disabled people. One-tenth of the world"s population is disabled people. We can easily observe disabled people around us.
Moreover, people who are physically healthy live in danger with high possibility of being disabled. Recently, many churches rarely take care of disabled people; they do not even worship with the disabled together. Churches including chapel buildings do not provide accessibility of disability, and there is no difference between churches and common people by understanding disabilities. Theological arguments about disability hardly exist in professional fields. By considering these facts, I would like to focus on finding true meanings of disability in the Christian view of ethics. Further more, negative and positive sides of disabilities are not only covered, but ethics of disabilities provided by Jesus are also enclosed in this essay.
It is insisted that one should concern both cultural backgrounds in the period of time Bible was written and current views while reading Bible. The key of understanding Bible correctly is to see God and Jesus who always help people in need. The ways to over- come disabilities are provided in the position of Christian ethics. In other words, one can discover the true meaning of health by accepting God’s calls that people should take actions to live together with disabled people as equals.
