This paper aims to investigate the interplay of phonology and morphology found in the morph [-s] in English mindful of the OCP effects. The constraints interaction model of Optimality Theory can effectively account for the behavior of three inflectional suffixes (e.g., the plural -s, the possessive -’s, and the third person singular present -s) with the same morph [-s]. The tense, person and number agreement between subject noun and verb is applied regardless of their distance. On the other hand, the interaction between other suffixes is applied only when they are adjacent. Further, apparent similar phonological environments can behave differently when their morphological environments are different. Those and other related phenomena concerning the morph [-s] is systematically captured based on the interaction of the constraints accounting for the interplay of the three inflectional suffixes in English.
