The purpose of this study is to explain the evolution of residential distribution patterns of power elites in Seoul during the period between 1994 and 2005. Indices such as location quotient(LQ), index of segregation(IS), and Getis-Ord’s distance statistics(G.O.) were used for the analysis of power elite distribution. Major findings of this study are summarized as follows; (1)About two thirds of Seoul’s power elites are still living in “the southern part of Han River”(Kangnam), but the imbalance is slightly mitigated since 2001. (2)Three Kangnam Districts including Kangnam-ku, Seocho-ku, and Songpa-ku have been the core region of power elite agglomeration since the mid-1980’s. (3)High quality living environment attracts power elites--this implies massive housing redevelopment works that are under way in Seoul will change the power elite distribution. (4)The level of residential segregation between power elites and general residents differs among power elite groups; people like medical doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, financiers, government officials, and professors show higher level of segregation than politicians, artists, or journalists. (5)In general, officials, journalists, financiers, professors, and medical doctors seem to be more concerned with access to highways or main arterial roads in choosing their residence than the people from other professions.
