King Chungseon was the half-blood prince having two homelands-Yuan and Koryeo. It was the most characteristic that he was Emperor Kublai’s daughter’s son. This was source of his infinite self-esteem and desire for political power. He kept on defying his father, King Chungnyeol. He didn’t like a Mongol princess in his married life and liked Koryeo women, but it was just his personal feeling.
King Chungseon had stayed long in Yuan since he was a child, and he also stayed during most of his reign there. That was because he felt comfortable staying there as an important member of Imperial Yuan, and because he had the purpose of ruling both Koryeo and Shimyang area simultaneously as a world monarch and participating in Yuan politics.
During the period of Mongol interference, Koryeo was full of political and social contradictions-conflicts between the Father King and his son, political activities by people close to the King, Shimyang King’s challenge to Koryeo King, exhaustion of finance, an increase of taxation, etc. These aspects were largely due to the fact that King Chungseon was a half-blood king and a worldwide king.
