This study aims to suggest a methodological framework of needs analysis for designing a journal writing English class for graduate students in university in EFL environment by triangulating multiple sources and methods based on the following research questions: 1) whose needs should be analyzed? 2) what should be analyzed? and lastly 3) how should analysis be conducted? For this study, the major features and characteristics of a needs analysis in EAP writing instruction will be discussed and previous research into a needs analysis for a journal writing class deigned for EFL graduate students, and its limitations will be reviewed. Based on the discussion, the integrated directions of a needs analysis from multiple sources (learners, teachers, school, target academic contexts) and methods (all possible qualitative and quantitative research data) will be suggested.
