Living in religious pluralism culture with higher tolerance for various religious beliefs, it is critical and vitally necessary to be able to discern and develop true biblical spirituality for Christians believing in Jesus Christ as the way and the truth and the life. Biblical spirituality is centered around Jesus Christ and it means believers' obedience to be led by the Holy Spirit, not being skewly distorted towards reason nor emotion out of balance, but holistically in balance. The Great Commission entrusted to all Christians in order for them to go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Triune God, and to teach them of the Great Commandment -which says to truly love God and neighbor- until they obey it. The holistic formation of biblical spirituality through discipleship training is absolutely necessary in order to effectively execute the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.
This study discusses discipleship, spirituality, five aspects of spiritual formation- intellect, emotion, will, sociality, and physical body - and reveals how discipleship training effects these five aspects in the life of trainees in their holistic development of spiritual formation. For the study, the year 2008 adult discipleship training trainees of Sa-Rang Community Church were selected as survey subjects. Comparing before and after discipleship training, there was clear change in spirituality, emotion, will, and intellect. Regarding social activities, the trainees began to participate as volunteers in church as well as participating in carrying out neighbor serving activities. As a result, it is confirmed that discipleship training has an effect on spiritual formation, intellectually, emotionally, willfully, socially, and physically.
