The inception of the knowledge-based society around the year of 2000 began to have a great influence on the types of industry. This new trend signified that culture becomes a driving force in social development. The cultural industry constitutes a part of software which provides contents in raising and cultivating creativity. The categories of cultural industry involve cultural commodities of design and crafts. The importance of immaterial values makes the state cultivate and support cultural industry in the 21 st century.
The trade of cultural commodities in the world is dominated by advanced countries which understood the importance of design and culture. The new comers like the Republic of Korea are disadvantaged in terms of resources, sales, circulation, institutions.
The innate characteristics of Korean culture are to be emphasized and developed into cultural commodities in order to develop Korean cultural industry in the competitive world.
The purpose of this paper is to make an offer of method of the development of cultural design industry by providing theoretical analytical data for achieving state competition in the world market, specially by analyzing the structures of market, distribution and present status in Japan.
