This research develops a method to use evolutionary computing for user interface design and applies the method to a virtual Internet store. Evolutionary computing has been mainly used for optimization, but it has also been used for designing machines and products. This paper uses evolution strategy, one of the evolutionary computing methods, to evolve the parameters of an abstract model of Internet stores so that the best design for a given user’s characteristics can be found and suggested. For this, a simplified model of an Internet store is developed and evolution strategy is applied to the model under various assumptions. Experiment results are analyzed to see the difference in the designs between different users.
