Chinese Myeongbogi that influence in Japanese narrative literature is whole 56 episodes. And among them, 22 episodes are about the tales of other world. This study analyzed those tales of other world in Myeongbogi and examined the type and characteristic by motive. Major findings are summarized as following.
First, about the type and motive, episode that receive other world by death is type that have most many and the complex structure. Occasion of swoon by dream or disease becomes episode of type of simplest structure.
Next about the position of this world and other world, there was one story that considered by the concept that hell exists in heaven, and three stories about the concept that hell exists in mountain. The rest of them were the concept that hell exists in this world or hard to find specific position because of an expression of reached on entrance of other world. And, Myeongbogi's tales of other world is emphasized a function of judgment of other world, and punishment that correspond in sins throughout image of hell is weak. It is more related to the name for judge that is called Gwan instead of Yeomna or Yeomma.
Finally, about the reason connected with other world and reason to relief, there were a lot of occasions by misdeed of destruction of life, but there are a lot of occasions that receive other world without connection with misdeed with request to take charge of administrative affairs of other world unexpectedly. On the other hand, public moral in Buddhism, such as release of captive birds or animals was the most frequent reason to relief in sympathy in misdeed of destruction of life. And the second most frequent reason except public moral was occasion that becomes innocence.
