In spite of the political and economic dynamism between Brazil and Asia, there has been relatively low and sporadic academic exchange emanating from these inter-regional connections. Up until now, Brazilian studies on Asia directed attention mostly to examining relations with Japan and its development model. These analyses tend to be sporadic, selective and irregular, involving a reduced number of scholars, as well as limited institutional resources. In this sense, a profound informational void between both regions persists. Seeking to contribute to narrow this gap, this article seeks to synthesize the history of Brazil's relations with Asia. It draws specific attention to the role of some Brazilian institutions and scholars in the study of bilateral relations concentrating its efforts on political and economic studies inquiries. Finally, it discusses prospects and possibilities for increased academic relations between Brazilians and Asians as a means of consolidating and amplifying the initiatives underway.
