This study compared Cho ji-hun with Matsud Basho on the word ‘nunmul(sadness)’. these poets break through tne barrier of western modernization. Basho was a poet lived 300years before but now widely appreciated and Ji-hun was a modern poet but wrote about traditional object successfully.
As for the expression of sadness, Basho adopted ‘teardrop - showing’ style, and Ji-hun choosed ‘teardrop-suppressing’. But these characteristics meet at one point, namely the sympathy and compassion for the destiny of all beings in the world. ‘The insight of the destiny, the sympathy and compassion for the destiny and the unique way of expression of the sadness’ are the very achievement of Ji-hun and Basho.
