This article analyzes characteristics of the times and co-relationship reflected in vocabularies through a comparative study on names of geographical destinations and countries shown in Korean or Japanese popular songs from 1945 until 1960. The proportion of vocabularies indicating names of geographical destinations and countries shown in Japanese popular songs was greater than in Korean popular songs. In addition, between names of domestic geographical destinations as group A and names of foreign geographical destinations and foreign countries as group B, the percentage of groups A and B in Japanese popular songs was 78% and 28% respectively and the percentage of groups A and B in Korean popular songs was 74% and 26% respectively. The percentage of group A was greater than group B in both Korean and Japanese popular songs. It is inferred that this distinctive character in popular songs came from the emotion and request of the times for both Japan as a defeated country of World War Ⅱ and Korea as liberated from Japanese colonization after World War Ⅱ to enhance domestic economic and social stability escaping from foreign influence in the political turbulence. The names of geographical destinations and countries frequently shown in Japanese popular songs were 『東京, 長崎, 銀座, 大阪, 高原, 京都, チャイナタウン, 沖?, ?草, 有?町, 尾?, 伊豆, 西銀座?前, ミネソタ, 木浦, 上海, アルプス, ハワイ, 日本, ハバロフスク, オランダ, モロッコ』 and the most frequently shown one was 『東京』, the capital city of Japan. The names of geographical destinations and countries frequently shown in Korean popular songs were 『서울, 나포리, 경상도, 파리쟌느, 목포, 남원, 부산, 아라비아, 베니스, 차이나타운, 전라도, 추풍령, 호남선, 충청도, 제주, 이북, 한국, 경부선, 미아리』 and the most frequently shown one was 『서울』, the capital city of Korea. The names of geographical destinations commonly shown in Korean and Japanese popular songs were 『チャイナタウン(차이나타운), 木浦(목포)』. Especially, it was made out that both Korean and Japanese commonly understood that 『木浦(목포)』 was the representative place where military resources, food and man power were drained under Japanese colonization and concentration of industries and population on 『東京 and 서울』, the capital cities of each country was intensified than ever under the circumstance of postwar rehabilitation and liberation of the times.
Thus, it was confirmed that the vocabularies indicating names of geographical destinations and countries shown in Korean or Japanese popular songs were mirroring the phases of the times based upon then political and social changes of both countries, and appear and/or disappear as organic bodies with life force.
