Economic development and growth of container trade in East Asia brought about the appearanceof new container ports. As a result, port-callings configuration or route network structure drastically changed within intra-Asia area and the competition among Asia ports has become violent further. Before alliance formation the competition was among Hub ports, though after alliance formation, the competition has become between past Hub ports and new trunk ports grown from feeder ports with high possibility of growth.
The change of port-callings configuration in Asia came from the appearance of alliance formation. At present, since alliance itself is changing, so we can forecast that thc port-callings configuration in Asia will continue to change within a wider range. The degree of concentration of container volume handled in Asia ports rose at the time of alliance formation because Hong Kong and Singapore as Hub ports had gathered many cargoes by their strong competitiveness. But the situation changed, since latter half of 1990's the degree of concentration has bee decreasing strongly. According these demand side factors and a supply side factor which the efficient transport system is Go-Around form, the current changing port-callings configuration will have continued for the time being.
