The present study investigates how the various stress factors such as work stress, family stress, self stress affects how security agents cope with them, especially active ways of dealing with stress, positive ways of dealing with stress, self-criticism, deviant behavior, the request for social support, recreational ways of dealing with stress. Considering that security agents are involved in special circumstances associated with that particular job unlike other careers, this study will offer some insights on the ways to relieve their stress effectively.
A survey was conducted in the study. A total of 100 security agents who are working in a private security agency in Seoul were selected by cluster random sampling. Among them, 7 participants were eliminated since they failed to answer to some questions. Therefore, a total of 93 security agents participated in the study. Multiple Analysis was run for the study and factor analysis and Cronbach's α were performed for the reliability and the validity. The statistic result of the study revealed that there was .42~.911 in factor analysis and -.8325~.8754 in reliability analysis. The overall result showed that security agents preferred negative ways of dealing with stress as their way to deal with self-stress. There seems to be a negative effect on positive way of dealing with stress and recreational way of dealing with stress. This shows that security agents deal with their stress in a rather negative way with somewhat deviant behavior than a positive way; for example, they get into an argument with their co-workers or stop their work halfway. This is mostly due to the lack of education to prevent the stress. Therefore, security agency needs to recognize the special circumstances the security agents are involved in and examine a variety of factors associated with their specific environments and take preventive measures for their stress.
