This paper shows in full detail that development strategy of Gwangyang bay area with introducing free economic zone. Korea has prepared free economic zones in order to not only attract foreign capital but also balance regional economy.
Ganyang bay area situated on the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is one of the three main platforms for logistics along with Pusan port and Songdo(Incheon) area and Ganyang bay area is also a travel and leisure center rich with tradition and natural resources.
But Ganyang bay area has a handicap of geographical position, local finance, infrastructures and it is difficult to pursue self-interest of local autonomous entity.
The obstacles to the improvements are suggested as follows:
Firstly, Ganyang bay area are going to expand infrastructures by the support of the central government as soon as possible.
Secondly, we need to make new image of Gangyang bay area and educate human resources suitable for the international business to facilitate Gwangyang bay area as a favorable place for foreginer investment
Thirdly, without improving working conditions and regulation, it is impossible to development it continuosuly. therefore the local community should prepare laws regading environment and working conditions.
Fourthly in order to attract multinational firms and domestic firms, it is necessary to arrange variable incentives.
Fifthly, each area of gwangyang bay area needs to specialize comparative advantage and the scope of free economic zone should be expand to develop balancedly.
