The purpose of the paper is to apply a theoretical approach to measure the productivity of the construction industry and to introduce the MPDM (Method Productivity Delay Model) by Adrian (1976). It defines productivity as the output per man-hour of input and as a country's ability to be competitive with other countries in terms of increasing capital investments, providing jobs, and limiting unemployment. It also defines the construction industry as building the infrastructure for industrial development and as having one of the smallest annual increases in productivity of all industries.
The paper applies the total factor productivity models for the industry and the individual firm developed by Kendrick (1961), Solow (1957), Denison (1962) and Jorgenson-Griliches (1972).
The paper concludes that MPDM can be viewed as an alternative to more traditional work method productivity models and the above model can be used to provide a new practical means of measuring, predicting, and improving productivity for construction firms in the future.
