Since the late 1980s the leisure and recreation studies have grown as a body of knowledge and as a source of employment opportunities in the sport-related fields. During this time, the sport sciences at the university level have seen constant progress, both in research and in professional preparation. There is now a network of academic units in all sorts of institutions, whether private or public.
To better prepare for these new career possibilities, the relative concerns who work in the fields of leisure and recreation must acquire a broad and thorough understanding of the entire field, even though some of the subfield may seem less important and less well understood. The aspiring leisure and recreation practitioner must also learn that we do not as yet have all the answers or even know all the questions we must ask to obtain as complete an understanding as possible of this complex field. And the leisure and recreation scholars have a responsibility to raise and to seek answers to scientific questions if the field is to advance and survive in the informative technological society.
In this study, the researcher have discussed 1) the status of leisure and recreation studies, 2) the tasks of leisure and recreation studies.
According to the result of the study, there were many problems in the curriculum as well as profession and the following steps should be introduced to meet the rapid changing informative technological society such as strengthening the field-based scholastic identity, adopting the decent department name, and establishing the region-based curriculum.
