Report Errors
The digitalization of Cable TV is in the center of media and telecommunication convergence with the digital technology development and diffusion of digital TV. The development of Cable TV industry grew dramatically through the technology innovation and digital facilities investment. In addition, the enlargement of MSOs achieved the scale of economy and dominated the market with various service such as the broadband internet and the internet phone. The motivation of vertical integration is the profitability, and cost advantage with the marketing efficiency of SOs and the stable program distribution of PPs. This study investigates the Cable TV System Operators’ productivity based on meta-frontier production function analysis which calculates the technical efficiency and the technical gap ratio can compare the level of technology gap ratio among three different technology based groups in Cable TV industry, which are the vertical integration SOs, the horizontal integration SOs and the isolated Cable TV SOs. This analysis uses the Cable TV SOs panel data considering the time-varying stochastic production function. The results shows that the vertical integration MSP group is the highest technical efficiency and technical gap ratio and the isolated SOs could improve their productivity and technical efficiency with vertical and horizontal integration.
