The purpose of this study were ① to identify the research contents and designs of nursing papers on ethics and ② to provide direction for the further research.
47 articles published in Korean journals and 12 master theses and doctoral dissertations in nursing science from 1975 to 2000 were reviewed and analyzed.
These studies were analyzed for ① main content ② time of publication ③ research design and ④ characteristics of subjects.
Major findings of 59 nursing papers analyzed were as follows :
1. The contents of nursing papers on ethics were analyzed by 6 categories such as introduction(22.0%), nursing dilemmas(37.3%), problem solving process(10.2%), education on ethics(8.5%) and issues(22.0%).
2. The principal designs used in nursing papers on ethics were descriptive and correlational survey(42.4%), qualitative research design(10.2%), comparative study(3.4%), experimental study(3.4%).
On the bases of these findings, the following recommendations were made : Meta-analysis should be done to analyze and integrate the results of various studies.
