Myth has been a resourceful motif in Western Literature for a long time. William Faulkner, who is an icon in American literature, has also represented the deep inner world of the human mind through myth motifs with other innovative literal techniques. As with all his works, Absalom, Absalom! is thought to be a typical fiction which represents his mythical imagination and devices. In particular, the journey into the deep South progressively and regressively is constructed in the main plot of the fiction. Thomas Sutpen’s progressive journey to become plantation owner shows how an innocent boy has been ruined eventually becoming a corrupted person who would justify means to accomplish his purpose. At the same time, Rose Coldfield’s regressive search into the womb reveals the impotence of the Old South. This journey into the deep South is the main structure of the fiction, which is signified in the memory of the characters, the history of the South and eventually the myth of Southerns.
