This paper examines the aspects of how wind imagination, one of the important images and motifs of Seo Jeong-joo's poetry, took shape in his poetry and how it communicated with Chuang-tzu's thought. Pervaded in his poetry, wind imagination was converted from strong desire of body into metaphysics agonized with ontological fatality after Seleted Poems of Seo Jeong-joo, and this formed the theme of eternity and mind, the thematic core of Seo's later poetry. This change of direction in Seo Jeong-joo's poetry came to understanding with Chuang-tzu's Soyoyu(逍遙遊) or normadic free spirit and developed into various aspects in his poetry. Firstly, it was expressed in various types of characters internalized the state of Heaven(天). The central figures of his middle and later years poetry are emotion life or characters who embodied emotion life, deeply connected to Chuang-tzu's free spirit. Secondly, it was formed as wind, a medium realizing human mind and moving objects or wind conveying human mind and realizing it. This wind could be interpreted as a concrete form of Poong-ryu or Yisim-Jeonsim(immediate communication from one mind to another). Meanwhile, his normadic free spirit was embodied as ‘play’(遊戱), a symbol of great freedom in his later years poetry honestly expressing the poet of old age. Wind is a critical factor dominating Seo Seong-joo's world of poetry. Unlike his early poetry suffering from desires and weight of body, wind in his middle and later years poetry moved on to ‘ideological study of wind’ or ‘metaphysics of wind’ taking the character of spiritual transcendence.
