In recent years, public theology has mainly been introduced in the Korean theological circles in relation to political and economic areas. However, it tends to include bioethics as one of the main spheres of public theology in the Western theological circles. In a sense, this study is focused on the discussion of bioethics as a sphere of public theology. In Chapter one, we will explore the understanding of bioethics within public theology. In Chapter two, we will deal with two models of theological bioethics such as sect-type model and participatory model. Whereas the former emphasizes specialty of church community, the latter is focused on common ground of both christian and secular ethics. In Chapter three, we will give a focus on critical evaluation to sect-type model of theological bioethics. Here the critic to George Lindbeck's theory as the basis of sect-type model is discussed. In Chapter four, we will explore the extended argument to participatory model. Lastly, we will point out the direction of theological bioethics in the Korean context.
