This is designed to observe a pattern and the meaning of "Songs of a daughter-in-law for resisting her husband's family", and to illuminate the literary significance of it. These songs have been noticed because of the fact that they reflected the woman's active responses to the real life. The arguments on these songs, however, have been made under the name of Narrative Folk Songs only in the general way.
Accordingly, this paper classifies these songs into a independent form, focused on the words of the songs. Especially, it is concerned about the daughter-in-law's reponses to the excessive demands of her husband's family. As a result, it can be shown that the resistance of the daughter-in-law is expressed in the forms of making a caricature of feminity, living like a monk, committing suicide, etc. In addition, this study investigated their literary significance by contrast with that of Saseol Sijo in 18C, which means that a daughter-in-law satirically expressed her feeling to try to find herself in her husband's family.
It seems that this kind of study should have been made before, because the discussion on the character of Narrative Folk Songs and, in connection with it, the estimation of folk songs are carried out many times. But, it is considered that studying original value of distributive folk songs has to be done at this point.
