The so-called Subject-to-Object Raising (hereafter, SOR) is likely to be facilitated by mutual cooperation between the existential reading and focus interpretation of raised bare plural subjects. When the complement bare plural subjects are in interaction with emphasis in the psychological mechanism of perceiving language context as well as the cognitive system for processing and understanding words, they are likely to undergo SOR to the upstairs clause to get an existential reading and focus interpretation. The syntactic representation of the psychological existential and focus interpretation of complement bare plural subjects is their SOR (N. Lee (p.c.)). When SOR takes place, the conclusions we reach with regard to the distribution of readings of bare plural subjects differ from those of J. Yoon (2007) that the raised bare plural subject is interpreted generically, rather than existentially.
