The Korean Wordnet we developed is a kind of macro thesaurus for Korean that is an indexed compilation of words with similar, related, and opposite meanings.
In the course of development, two basic features of natural language: synonymy and polysemy or homography have been applied conceptually rather than alphabetically.
In information technology, a thesaurus represents a database or list of semantically orthogonal topical search keys. In the field of Artificial Intelligence, a thesaurus may sometimes be referred to as an ontology.
The Korean Wordnet consists of 4,000 concepts with 12 depths and 230,000 words.
This study represents how we developed the Korean Wordnet by describing formulation, display and organization of terms as a form of controlled subset of natural language, methods of construction and management program of a Korean thesaurus.
A large synonym and antonym dictionary including more than 200,000 Korean words will be published in 2008 based on the Korean Wordnet and this study presents the examples of contents, formulation of a large synonym and antonym dictionary for Korean.
