The purpose of this study is to explore in which historical dramas represent Koguryo in Korea. 'Joomong' (MBC), 'Ryongaesomoon' (SBS), 'Daejoyoung' (KBS1) have driven to Koguryo fever wind, paid a hot attention to the audience in 2006. It is 'Joomong' that Korean television drama set Koguryo at first as a historical background. Before 'Joomong' was broadcast, Korean television dramas have tended to set the Chosun Era as a major historical space. This is closely related to Dongbukgongjeung, Historical Distortion Project, conducted by Chinese Government. Koguryo historical dramas seem to follow new modes of address, called imaginative description, which has been popular since the late 1990s. It attempts to depict individual human beings in their mental complexity and spiritual depth, depending on author's historical imagination, rather than historical facts. Koguryo historical dramas have used a wide range of stroytelling strategies such as devices of melodrama, representation of historical space by vast open sets, and visual spectacles. Koguryo historical dramas represent a strong nationalism, expansionism and patriarch. However, they tend to express exclusive nationalism, ignoring new cultural flow of Eastern Asia. In addition, they show contradictional values between nationalism and expansionism, patriarch and melodrama, private sphere and public sphere.
