This paper aims to bring light on the recognition of Koguryo history represented in Korean historical materials. For this aims, I investigate every period of recognition, separately.
At first, in Koguryo period, Koguryo regards himself as an independence state and most sacred state in the world. The monument of King Gwang-Gae-To and the use of unique name of era are evidence of this fact.
Second, in Unified Silla period, Silla called unification of three kingdoms-Koguryo, Baekjae and Silla-as 'unification of Three Han. It means Silla and Koguryo basically same as Han, and it is not unification of heterogenic states. But history of Koguryo occupied not fixed position in Korean history yet.
Third, in Koryo dynasty, there were some different views on the way to understanding history of Koguryo, for example capital of Koguryo etc. But there were no different views to regard Koguryo as one of three kingdoms in Korean history. Moreover many peoples thought Koguryo was succeeded by Koryo dynasty. In the end, Koguryo held firmness position in Korean History.
Fourth, in Chosen dynasty, it became commonsense that history of Koguryo is a pan of Korean history, And a paint of issue was the relation between main stream of Korean history and history of Koguryo. In this process, novel theories were proposed by scholars.
