Until now, the written language has been considered as a representation of spoken language. Compared to the researches of spoken language, the written language has been less studied. But recently, a few works show that the two languages have their own system and have their own unit on the level of language. Based on the concept of the difference between spoken and written language, firstly, this treatise tries to propose the new term Cacel (character) as the unit of writing system in contrary to Umcel (syllable) in spoken language. In modern Korean, although the types of syllable are 8, this treatise brings out the fact the types of character are 11. The difference is caused by the disagreement between coda in syllable and final in character. The coda has 7 consonant sound, whereas the final in character has 27 consonant letters. Secondly, this treatise tries to establish the phonological word as opposed to morphological word. Until now, the word is mainly defined in terms of written language. Generally, a word is defined as the minimal free form and consists of one or more morphemes. This means that the word can't be inserted to a space and another word, and can't be separated within a word by visual means. But, this treatise proposed the necessity of phonological word in terms of spoken language. In other words, the phonological word is divided by pause of aural means. The definition of phonological word is a word which is applicable to the phonetic change based on a pause, and a minimal form which is independently pronounced among the grammatical morphemes.
